Gretchen Ludwig

Associate Director

As Associate Director, Gretchen develops and supports transformative learning experiences that expand students’ possibilities on their journeys as communication leaders.

Gretchen began her curriculum design work in the non-profit media arts sector, helping filmmakers develop their craft by connecting them to educational opportunities, media outlets, and mentors in the field. There, Gretchen cultivated a passion for creating learner-focused, project-based experiences, collaborating with working practitioners, and developing community partnerships.

Since 2007 she has worked at the University of Washington leading experiential learning programs, first with the Department of Sociology and then with C21 (the Center for 21st Century Liberal Learning). In addition to curricular design and teaching, she has also produced online learning and media content to help students shape their stories, build networks, and develop mindsets to help navigate the transition from classroom to career.  In 2014 she earned her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction at UW.

Gretchen grew up in Maine, where her love of storytelling began at big family gatherings where she and her cousins competed around the table for who could rack up the most laughs. These days her favorite storytelling medium is the podcast. She takes all recommendations.
